Federal Laboratory Consortium Enters into Partnership with Maryland Tech Council

Released: February 8, 2023

(WASHINGTON, DC – February 8, 2023) The Federal Laboratory Consortium (FLC) has entered into a strategic partnership with the Maryland Tech Council (MTC), as part of an ongoing campaign to build stronger relationships and greater collaboration between federal laboratories and small businesses, while facilitating economic development in the Mid-Atlantic Region of the U.S.

MTC, the largest technology and life sciences trade association in the state of Maryland, supports nearly 700 member companies who are driving innovation through advocacy, education, workforce development, cost savings and connecting entrepreneurial minds. MCT signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the FLC on January 18, 2023.

Under the agreement, the FLC and MTC will jointly encourage collaborations between federal laboratories and regional businesses to help move technologies out of the lab and into the marketplace – a vital process known as technology transfer. These public-private partnerships will support new innovations, leading to job creation and economic benefits.

The FLC and MTC will work together to promote and participate in mutually beneficial activities such as joint meetings, sponsorships, and special events to connect federal labs with entrepreneurs and small businesses and spur economic development within Maryland.

“By partnering with the Federal Laboratory Consortium, the Maryland Tech Council aims to catalyze career opportunities for all, and to help Maryland companies learn how to move technologies out of the lab and into the marketplace,” said Kelly Schulz, CEO of the Maryland Tech Council. “We are excited to leverage our platform with the FLC for a positive impact that benefits residents, career-seekers, and tech and life sciences companies alike.”

The agreement makes MTC the fifth Maryland-based organization to partner with the FLC.

“This collaboration with MTC will strengthen the FLC’s ability to support technology transfer in Maryland, which is home to more than 70 federal laboratories,” said Paul Zielinski, FLC Executive Director. “We’re excited to work with MTC to help connect Maryland entrepreneurs with federal labs within the state and across the country.”
