(WASHINGTON, DC – July 16, 2024) The Federal Laboratory Consortium for Technology Transfer (FLC) is thrilled to announce that it has been honored with two APEX Awards for Publication Excellence in the 2024 competition. The APEX Awards, now in its 36th year, recognize exceptional achievements in graphic design, editorial content and overall communications excellence among professional communicators.

This year's APEX competition was highly competitive, with more than 1,100 entries vying for top honors across various categories. Despite the stiff competition, FLC distinguished itself with outstanding work in two categories:

Electronic Media – Multimedia

LabTech in Your Life – Hospital Tour

Description: The LabTech in Your Life Hospital Tour is the third tour in FLC’s interactive virtual city, a digital feature highlighting common and essential everyday products that came from federal innovation. Visitors touring the realistic hospital can visit an exam room, pharmacy, emergency room and more to discover technologies like vaccines, treatments and machinery that originated in federal labs and now help countless patients every day.

Annual Reports – Print

Awarded for: 2022 Annual Report to the President and Congress

As required by law, the FLC highlights its efforts in supporting and promoting federal technology transfer in an annual report to the President, Congress, and relevant agencies. This report provides an overview of the Consortium’s activities and events, strategic committees, and regional promotions during the fiscal year, as well as the financial contributions of its member agencies, highlighting the positive impact of investing in federal research and development on our nation’s economy.

“The FLC prides itself on communicating the importance of federal laboratory research to our nation and our economy,” said FLC Executive Director Paul Zielinski. “These awards demonstrate our commitment to excellence in supporting the deployment of new technologies that improve our lives in many ways.”

The FLC extends its gratitude to the APEX Awards and Communications Concepts, Inc., which sponsors the competition through its newsletter, Writer's Web Watch. Communications Concepts has been providing problem-solving information to professional communicators since 1984.
