(Washington, D.C. – July 19, 2021) The Federal Laboratory Consortium (FLC) and the Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA) will co-host a virtual event on July 21 showcasing how emerging entrepreneurs can benefit from FLC and MBDA programs. This event will be part of the 2021 National Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Week, which runs July 19 – 23.
The SBIR and the Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs, collectively known as America’s Seed Fund, are coordinated by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and constitute the country’s largest source of early-stage business funding. National SBIR Week aims to connect entrepreneurs working on advanced technologies with the more than $4 billion in funding available annually to small businesses from SBIR and STTR. The FLC/MBDA webinar, “Technology Transfer and Small Business Innovation Research,” is a 2.5 hour program for entrepreneurs, particularly minority entrepreneurs. Successes from both FLC and MBDA programs will illustrate the wide range of benefits available for small business development. During the week of programming, the FLC will be scheduling one-on-one meetings to connect small business owners with federal laboratories to grow their companies and/or gain support from participating organizations. These meetings will help small businesses learn how partnering with federal labs can provide access to technologies that are poised for commercialization, facilities for testing existing or emerging products, and expert connections to opportunities for sponsored research.
