(WASHINGTON, DC – June 7, 2021) The Federal Laboratory Consortium (FLC) has entered into a strategic partnership with the New Jersey Commission on Science, Innovation and Technology (CSIT) as part of an ongoing campaign to help state and local small businesses succeed through collaborations with federal laboratories.
CSIT, which works to strengthen the innovation economy in New Jersey by providing resources and assistance to small businesses and entrepreneurs, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the FLC in late May.
Under the agreement, the FLC and CSIT will jointly encourage partnerships between federal laboratories and industry to help move technologies out of the lab and into the marketplace – a vital process known as technology transfer. These public-private partnerships will support new innovations, leading to job creation and economic to benefit society.
The FLC and CSIT will work together to promote and participate in mutually beneficial activities such as joint meetings, sponsorships and special events to maximize federal lab presence to connect with and benefit small business for greater economic development.
“New Jersey’s vibrant innovation ecosystem is ripe with entrepreneurs working to discover and commercialize life-saving and life-enhancing technologies,” said CSIT Executive Director Judith Sheft. “We are thrilled to add this strategic partnership to our growing suite of resources that support early-stage companies throughout the Garden State. Federal laboratories play a pivotal role in helping New Jersey startups fuel their growth and we look forward to hearing about many success stories that arise as a result of this new relationship.”
This partnership, which involves federal funding for new innovations and / or licensing of technologies developed by federal researchers, is part of a deliberate campaign to increase its presence among local organizations through its regional support program.
“Regional partnerships like this one help to broaden the FLC’s reach and educate the private sector about the value of working with federal labs,” said Paul Zielinski, FLC Executive Director. “Working with CSIT, we can create more opportunities for small businesses in New Jersey to expand and build a stronger local economy.”
