The nationwide teacher shortage and lost school time due to the COVID-19 pandemic create an undeniably negative effect on learning in general and on language arts in particular. These situations place a premium on supplementing curriculum with resources that can help children keep up and stay ahead of literacy expectations.

Author Lori Harvill Moore, addressing educational challenges exacerbated by teacher shortages and lost school time, writes and publishes interactive workbooks for students. "I designed the first two workbooks for children in fourth grade, although students from age eight through 11 will benefit from the instruction," said Moore, who tackles both grammar and composition in her workbooks, The Eight Parts of Speech and Topic, Message, and Form, respectively.

Moore believes that all English language ancillary content should be based on published, accepted language arts standards, and should be accessible to students with different learning styles. "Kids may be visual or auditory learners, or they might learn better through reading and writing." She adds that chapter videos and practice exercises make the workbooks uniquely interactive.
